Peak Oil

Oil is considered as black gold.
82 mil barrels consumed per day.
Finite fossil fuel.
Local national global and future perspectives.
Groups discuss whether peak oil is a myth or reality?

1.     What is the peak oil debate?
The peak oil is a debate about whether oil is running out or will not run out.

2.     What will you be learning? What skills will you be using?
You will be learning about whether the oil is running out or not. I would also be learning about how people think of it from a local, national, global and future perspectives. The skills I would be using are researching and group skills, evaluation skills and communication skills.

Definition of Peak Oil:
There is a limited amount of oil that we can extract from the earth. Peak oil refers to the point at which the supply of oil is that its limit. After this point, oil supply will begin to decline. Economists have a variety of predictions as to when peak oil will occur. Some say the peak will be reached in the next ten to twenty years, while others argue it has already passed.

The five main oil exports in the world are: Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran and Kuwait.

The Hubbert curve is a curve that shows how much oil there is over a period of time:

M.King Hubbert was a distinguished scientist who published on many aspects of petroleum geology, but he is most remembered for his 1956 work on forecasting production, in which he introduced a special bell-curve that bears his name.

Is global oil production reaching its peak?

A few years ago only a handful of geologists and academics were considering such a possibility.
But now it appears even governments are taking a serious look at the subject.
The question is occupying more and more minds around the world.
It could happen soon.
A French government report on the global oil industry forecasts a possible peak in world production as early as 2013.

Oil giant BP has announced a deal that will allow it to begin exploring off the coast of Brazil.
I personally don't think that Devon should sell the rights to explore for oil in Brazil to BP. Due to the fact that BP are now just trying to put things right after there back up plan FAILED miserably when attempting to stop the oil leaking from there rig when the pipes burst and leaked oil into the ocean.

My role in a group

My role in a group is the one who takes  everyone else's ideas into consideration no matter how crazy they are. Then I try to find a way to combine them and/or make them better.

This is an important role due to the fact that some ideas to link well together and when linked they combine to make a better idea rather than it being a simple idea.

My Feedback for my VLOG - Classmates

Praveen – He covered both the positive and negative sides of deforestation. The best one was the local reasons because it has the most detail.
Presentation – he spoke clearly and it was easy to understand.

Jack – You managed to cover your personal perspective also as well as the local and Global perspectives. You spoke Clearly and your presentation was well organized!
